He wrote a fair bit of compositions for trombone. Any suggestions on solo and/or etudes to check out? Any level. Thanks!

The Ballad of Enob Mort is a nice solo for a decent high school student. Double Portraits for Trombone and Tuba is also very nice, and more on a college/professional level. I've used some of his duets and trios with my students. He has a lot of very nice pieces for trombone.

I like his Christmas Trombone Quartet arrangements. I have two sets of them. We play some volunteer charity sessions every year with the orchestra section (plus 1), and we always include his charts. They are a little quirky, but really well scored with great sounding chords, etc. Fun, generally sight-readable stuff for your next holiday gig.

I would also like to recommend "Intermediate-Advanced Etudes".
These were written in and around 1997 and are typical Uber - tuneful, not too heavy, and fun to play. There are 26 etudes that cover all keys, employ different time signatures and stretch the technique of the player.

“Autumn Sketches” is another nice solo. I’ve had a few students perform it at solo & ensemble. It has a fun piano part as well.
I also enjoy the quartets “4 Impressions” and “3 miniatures.”
All of his pieces that I’ve played are classical pieces with heavy undertones of jazz, particularly in some of the harmony. Most of his pieces lay great on the trombone, since he was a trombonist.
I’m curious to see what else people recommend, since he was incredibly prolific.

I forgot about this one, which is a shame, since I’m pretty sure I played it on a recital at some point. Yes, this is a fantastic piece (well, set of pieces).
