Re: Hearing Aid Experience?

I had been fighting the bass bone for a couple of years and for a 60th Birthday present went to the audiologist (2 years ago). Found out I had moderate to severe high end loss in both ears. About 65% genetics/old age and 35% not the best hearing hygiene over the years. I wasn't hearing right which c...

Re: Playing With a Face Mask?

We can have fun with this but now it is serious at least for me. Our regional Symphony has been approved by the state department of health to start our season in October. All brass and woodwind players have to wear masks while playing. It will be very interesting. A couple of us know a really good s...

Re: Adding a second counterweight

I am going to throw out this maybe stupid idea. Could you try some tape on wheel balancing weights to temporarily see if the added weight will work? You could also get differing weights so you might know how heavy you would need and maybe where to place the counterbalance. Should be able to get some...

So not always decided on the Large and Small Bore. Mouthpiece choice sometimes depends on what I am p...

Re: Mouthpiece choice in 1.5 range

If you are wanting something a little bigger than the 3, why not try the Marcinkiewicz 1 1/2? Same rim with a deeper cup. Or go to the 1. It is listed as an oversize 1 1/2g. My go to.

Re: What are some horns you will NEVER buy?

Holton 181. Never played one that was very good. Over the years played a number of them.

Any Bach. Never could sync up to one of them. Tenor and Bass.

Re: What are some horns you will never sell?

I am 61 and have started thinking do I really need all these horns. Looking at what I actually play and how often I have needed a certain size makes me think. A couple I would rather not sell but I don't think there is any one of them that would not available. I was looking for a good bass trombone ...

Re: Olds S-24G Bass Trombone - Tell Me More

I got one my Freshman year in college and played it for about 7 or 8 years, through college and as a part time professional. I really don't remember any big problems but that was 40+ years ago. Did have Larry Minick re-do the trigger system and had Eric Swanson do one of his early open wraps. I don'...

Re: Does it matter what horn you play?

I think it does to a point. You are still going to sound like you. I have played 3 different bass bones in the regional Orchestra I am in over the last I guess almost 30 seasons. The instrument I play now, the section says still sounds like me but they like it better. Not really able to put why they...

Hearing Aids and Playing Trombone

To start out I am a 60 year old part-time professional Bass Trombonist. Through a lot of genetics, a little age, and a little damage from younger years I will probably have to get hearing aids in September. I have sensory neural hearing loss. Left ear is the worst which has made it a struggle to hea...

Re: Getzen 3062AFR

I have a 3062AF that I have been playing as a part time pro for about 6 years. I think it is an excellent horn. Of course got it for a really good deal. My local dealer had it as a demo and I was maybe the second person to play it? I like it.....of course I played a Yamaha 613R for 25 years before t...

Re: Bass players that don’t play tenor?

I consider myself a Bass Trombone player 1st and a Tuba player 2nd. I live in an area with out a lot of gigs on any brass. I still play Tuba because I really enjoy playing Tuba. There is a large Civil War historical movement in Northwest Arkansas so a few of us started a Civil War Era Brass Band. Ac...

Re: Bass players that don’t play tenor?

I started out many years ago on Trumpet. In 6th grade changed to Tuba. In High School around Junior year learned Trombone to play in Jazz Band and picked up Bass my senior year. Played it in Jazz Band and switched from Tuba to Bass Bone in our area Youth Orchestra. Went to college as mostly a Bass T...

I am amazed at the picture of the NYP section. Even the Tuba is not a giant as they are today.
And they sounded great without giant instruments......hmmmmmm......

Re: Mouthpiece for bass trombone beginner

Marcinkiewicz has good mouthpieces for Bass Trombone. I have been playing them for most of the past almost 40 years. The 1 1/2G would be good or the 3 (2G sized). But I also agree with Doug above!

Re: What`s your "GO TO" Brand ?

How about a hodge podge of vintage horns. My Olds P24G is the daily player, an Elkhart 88H for a large bore, a 60's 3B Concert, and a 44H. Add to that a Cerveny 4 rotor valve Eb Tuba and a Yamaha YEP-321 Euph. I do like the Olds and if I can clear out a couple of horns I will try to get a few more. ...
