Conn 111H

Post by MTbassbone »

What's the scoop on the Conn 111H? Any experiences? Can't find any info on the web. Is it a heavy horn?

Double dependent. Rose bell. Bb/F/Eb with a D slide available. I think it's like the 112h but dependent.

Probably discontinued because it is so similar to the 62h dependent.

Anyone ever played one? Is there a history behind the model?

Never played one, but Conn introduced a bunch of newer models around the 1990s:

100H: 0.500" bore straight tenor (basically to replace the 6H) based on a Minick design.
110H: Single valve bass
111H: Dual valve dependent bass.
112H: Dual valve independent bass.

The 111H never sold well. Probably why Conn reintroduced the 62H. Then they introduced the 62HI to replace the 112H.

I found old catalogue. Photo is not clear but shows dependent valve.
At that time, 100h (straight tenor) and 110h(single bass), 111h, 112h was produced, but only 111h was discontinued soon.
Also bell diameter was 9.5”, current 110h and 112h is 10”.

I tried one today. It was very heavy and the sound was not my cup of tea. Your mileage may vary.
