Which alto trombone

Post by heinzgries »

I think its Mark Lawrence. Which brand of alto trombone does he play on this video?

On his first solo CD, he lists a Sterling Silver Glassl as his alto. That appears to be what he's playing on that video. Nice playing from the group, by the way. Thanks for sharing the clip!

I was going to say, the mythical Sterling Glassl.

I recently tried a Glassl sterling bell tenor. Incredibly responsive horn. Interesting also because the horn overall was built in the German tradition, but the bell shape looked more like a typical American bell in terms of the taper and flare. Also ticker walls, and two part construction with a T seam, both things that are unusual for a German bell. Yet the combination worked great and it was a truly impressive horn.
