Slide sound during lubrication

Post by 11561man »

When I'm lubricating my Conn 22H slide, sometimes I get a slight clank sound while working the cream into the outers. I do each tube individually and then reverse them (upper inner in lower outer, etc.). It isn't an issue while playing, but I'm wondering if one of the outer tubes may be slightly elongated just enough to where it can caress an area of the barrels? Action is not affected at all, just the sound.

Does the clank occur when the slide goes to the fully closed position? It's not uncommon to hear a clank if you ram the slide into the bumper. If that's the case I wouldn't panic over it.

It does, yes. It also clanks occasionally when moving from 1st position when working the reversed tubes.
