Thein Tenor Trombone

Post by bdeclerck1 »

Hi,

Is there anyone who has more experience with Thein Tenor Trombones.
I've never tested one, and these days it's not possible to drive to Bremen (from Belgium).

In fact I'm most interested in the following models.
- Universal I
- Universal lI
- model Spain

Greetings,
B

I tried one out. In my opinion, there are better tools for the job than the Universal model. Just didn't gel with me- it felt very heavy, which is the opposite of what many others report with Theins.

For a horn that costs that much, it would be worth waiting out the pandemic and driving to try it.

They're good. But for the price, I feel like there are better choices.

They are far too expensive. The one I tried felt like it would melt in my hand.

I have a Universal II and it's very, very good. People like when I record with it - they say it's blendier than some of my other choices. Screw bell, flat case, etc. Very nice.

I tried a Thein once. This one was not well cared for but it played and looked 50 years older then my 1960's Bach.
Think os a PBone sound with a sackput (sp?) feel.

I've tried a few but never talked myself into buying one. They've all been very, very nice. I'd like to have one myself, I'd love to try the Spain model...

after trying a universal II model at the ITF in redlands, if i ever move away from using a vintage shires horn that i've had forever it would probably be for a thein horn.

i also have a clear memory of the thein german style alto being flat out the best trombone i have ever played (better than any other alto, tenor, bass, etc) that's defiitely on my list of dream horns to try out again.
