Conn 6H or not?

Post by Sniffynose »

Hi,
I found an old Conn trombone in a pawnshop today that says ‘director’ on the bell but the receiver that meets the slide is stamped ‘6H’. Is this a 6H? Or is it a student model bell slapped on an old 6H frame?
The serial number on the slide dates it to approximately 1963. It does not say ‘director’ on the mouthpiece receiver like I may have expected.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
Sorry no pics

Could be a replacement bell. The slide will also have the model number on the outer slide under the cork barrel.

If the Director bell is Coprion (copper), you probably have an Aaron Chandler/Acme Trombones "Copper Dragon" (6H with a Coprion Director bell swap).

Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that it is not a Coprion bell.

Something could've happened to the bell that required replacement or somebody wanted a 7.5in bell for their 6H. My current project is to try to do the latter.
6H (K series)
6H (early 60s)
4H/5H custom bell
78H ('53)
78H (K series)
78H/36BG /2547 slide
8H
88HN
71H (dependant valves)
72H
35H alto (K series)

Could it be a genuine, complete 16H Director which has the 1 of the 16 not stamped correctly?

Cheers

My bet is someone mated a 6H slide on a director bell.

If it's a genuine 6H slide, it will have "6H" engraved both on the outer and inner slide.
