Greg Black 9C ...... New model/size

Post by Fidbone »

I'm playing one of Greg Black's newest model small bore mouthpieces a 9C
Absolutely loving it as it seems to be what I've been hankering for all my life!
For anyone who wants a mouthpiece which is bang in the middle of a 7C/11C this is definitely the one for you :good:

Love it :hi:

Nice!! That's something everyone always seems to be looking for.

I still need to try out the 11C I got from Hornguys. It's actually closer to a 7C size wise, so it's also somewhat in the middle.

Interesting! I had Greg build me a 9C based off two Mt Vernon models I loved. Wonder if this is close! If so, it should be a great, great piece.

Hmm, Interesting :-)
Is that maybe what this 9C has come out of Nick?

I'm loving it :pant:

Greg sent the following............... :clever: :good:

"It came about from guys feeling the 11C was too snug... needing a little more room but not as big as my 7..

The rim contours are very different between the 7 & 11"

Also this was for Nicks Mouthpiece............

You sent me this a few years back to try. Great piece! I still have your Greg Black Chauncey Welsh piece too.

So cool to see this! I'm definitely going to have to try it out, then!

Redthunder, still liking the Chauncey piece? That's a very good one.

Can you describe the rim contour or show an image of the 9c contour? I found his 7c to really bite into my chops.

I like it, but the rim is just so much smaller than what I've been using the past few years. I've been toying with seeing if Greg can make me a larger rim for it since it's already a screw rim, or maybe asking Doug. I'd love to play it more!

I've never liked a 7C contour in any make.
The 9C is very comfortable for me.
I had surgery to remove a cyst just above my top front teeth which changed my whole set up.
So it needs to be comfortable :good:Image

What's the specs of the 9C? Inner rim, BackBore and Throat?
I tried out GB 7C was a nice piece soundwise but rim shape felt a little sharp and smaller than my Bach 11C because of the contour I think. I wonder how this new 9C feels and play?

I am on a Doug Elliot ST99 for a while and love it so far. But I am still looking for the best or better alternatives of the Bach 11C. Recommendations are welcome.

Not sure of the specs mate, there's no info on the website!
It's a sweet piece though.
Great core and sound :good:
