TSO into a useable object - floor lamp!

Post by Kingfan »

First, no trombones were harmed in the making of this lamp.

I picked up a Chinese TSO for $20. My tech's quote to fix the slide was more than the horn is worth. It came with a case, some Superslick, and a generic mouthpiece so I figure I got my $20 worth. What to do with the horn? I found a brass colored floor lamp at a thrift store. I took the socket out, drilled out a wood closet rod bracket and clamped it in place, covered it with a sock, pulled out the tuning slide and put it only on the lower tube leaving the bell wide open, slid the bell over the lamp onto the bracket and and adjusted the height, re-installed the wiring, and voila, we have a floor lamp for the practice area. This can be done with any horn, and all you have to do to get the horn back playing is undo the wiring and take it off.

I just had a thought - if somebody wanted to sneak another trombone into the house without spousal approval, just make it into a lamp!

You could make a recliner out of a cimbasso.... Nice lamp!

I would have done it the other end up, and used the flat of the bell (with some lexan) as a table.
