German Brass goes Bach

Post by Burgerbob »

Here's a beyond amazing live performance of German Brass, playing all Bach in a cathedral.

Thanks Aidan. Wonderful performance by some incredible musicians. :good:

By the way, Thomaskirche is not a "cathedral" but a Lutheran church in Leipzig, Germany, famous as the workplace (1723-1750) and burial site of Johann Sebastian Bach. The music is thus entirely appropriate for this venue. J.S. would surely have loved this concert!

This link showed up over on tubenet last night. I've had it running this morning. I love trombones and chorus.

Indeed. That's quite a collection. [German Brass ~0:45]

One of those "trumpets" looks like a small (alto?) valve trombone! [~3:50] Versatile player.

I do not remember the lead trumpet player's name but he has a few YouTube videos out with him playing Bach (I assume) violin concertos on trumpet. Awesome playing. Awesome music.

Matthias Hofs is the principal trumpet. One of the best players in the planet.

The alto valve trombone is played by the first trombonist.
