Sousa-palooza and a sur-Pryor too

Post by robcat2075 »

A news report, typical of its time, of local concert activity by a notable musician.

I find these things interesting for their testimony to what composers and repertoire were in play at the time.

Horatio Parker?
Demare?
Orem?

Parker remains in memory as a college teacher of Charles Ives. The others would be extinct but for the internet.

Meyerbeer's "Torch Dance"? Turns out he has at a least four.

Originally written for band by Meyerbeer! I had no idea.
