Intermediate trios & quartets

Post by ttf_anonymous »

Hi

I'm looking for trios to suit intermediate players. Does anyone have any wonderful suggestions? Any style will do....chorales to 'light'. I don't know of any myself, so please do suggest any which are considered standard.

Also, intermediate quartets where the 4th part would suit a tuba too.

Many thanks for help

If you look at the thread Jalapeno started on trios, there are some wonderful suggestions there.

For a quartet where the 4th voice may be a tuba, there is a Tuba/Euph quartet of Wabash Cannonball (pub by Morris) that will work great.  There are a bunch of quartets out there.  One of the classics is Flor Peeters "Quatuor".  Note that there is some tenor clef in the 1st and 2nd parts so it's not very good for lower High School.  I'll let some others propose quartets.

Here's some specific suggestions. There are many more...

Intermediate Trios:
Bach/Donald Miller. Chorales vo. 1 & 2
Dhellemes. Collection of trios
Müller. Collection.

Intermediate Quartets:
Andrea Gabrieli/Friedman. Ricercare
Giovanni Gabrieli/Brown (Friedman?). Sonata
Nelhybel,Vaclac. Various
Peeters. Quartet

Most of these should be available through a reputable on-line store like Hickeys.

I remember seeing a graded literature list for quartets somewhere. I'll post later if I can find it.

His website went dark and now that resource is gone. I was just wondering if there was an archive or if its really just gone. I have some of it, but certainly not all.

My favorite trombone trio suite:
    Handel Suite for Three Trombones

All three parts have nice lines. Can be played by either three tenor trombones or two tenors with one bass.

Here's a video recording so that you can judge the difficulty for yourself:
