I just received mine. Best tuner purchase I ever made. Accurate, easier to read than a Snark, small, cheap.

If these are the ones I think they are, I've heard good things about them. Are these the type that pick up on the vibrations from the instrument rather than pick up the sound from a mic?

Yes. But if you hold it right in front of the bell and toot wth mf or louder it will respond for a quick check.

Snarks are very popular, though tricky to use with a trombone. Or just use one on your fancy phone, if you have one.

This is not a Snark. Works better than and is more visible than the Snark at 1/4 the price. It may not have all the features of a Snark, as it does not pretend to be anything but a simple tuner.

At that price, I shouldnt even ask, but how well does it pick up lower frequencies?

Snark is easy to use on trombone. Put it on your slide. This one probably can attach there too. I love this type of tuner.

I got this one a six months or so ago for pretty cheap that i really love. Works well in the low range, gives a cent readout, and recharges with a micro usb so you don't have to buy batteries.
It's pretty fantastic how there have become so many options for these!

$9.99 and it works great!
It's like the old Conn Strobetuner and Peterson strobe tuners of yore!
