Has anyone tried this stuff?.....I had a friend say it works as well as the Yamaha chapstick like lube.

I think we had this discussion once before.

Ho, I think it gets sticky with time.

Want something cheap?  Pond's Cold Cream still works.  But really, Trombotine lasts so long that it's cost effective.  I have tubes that lasted 10 years of constant use.

I used to use Vaseline petroleum Jelly on tuning slides, and it worked OK.  I've never heard of KY jelly used as an instrument lube.

I’ve used it once because I heard an it when it was discussed here, but mostly because it’s what I had in my dorm, on a valve bone. It indeed worked. But was soon cleaned as I clean my horns often and relubed with actual valve oil.

And somewhere, in a parallel universe, someone is asking if Yamasnot can be used as an "intimate" lubricant.

It's not Kentucky.  The brand name is KY and it's sold as a lubricant for sex (I'll leave it for you to take that further).

The requirements for it are somewhat an anathema to what is needed for a slide lubricant.  It's not "stiff" enough for a tuning slide, and will disappear the first time you spray it with water -- it's intended to wash off.

Even though the new Pond's cold cream isn't as good as the old stuff we used in the 1960s, I think that's a better choice of what you can buy in your local pharmacy.

Apparently not even the makers know why it's called "K-Y".  Image

I did not know that about coal. I do know a thing or two about elephants, though.

What's grey and comes in quarts?
Elephants.

You see, this is why I also ride dirt bikes and photgraph wild animals.  It makes me seem ... manly and full of vigor.
