Caidex basstrombone valve

Hello everyone,

the Swiss instrument producer Willson introduced this year a new trombone valve, the Caidex valve. Has anyone tried out this new valve? Maybe on a basstrombone?

Jeff at Long Island Brass Co (username Librassco I believe) just installed these a few weeks ago on a horn and has made a few comments about them here. IIRC he had only good things to say.

Looks similar to the Kanstul CR valve.

Looks similar to the Kanstul CR valve.

The CR valve has more of a "cage" around the circumference.

Pricey is one thing if I can get a significant improvement. I‘m just intrigued by the original Greenhoe valve which is better than I thought. Living in Europe it‘s easier to get the Caidex than the Greenhoe I guess. BUT is the Caidex comparable to the Greenhoe?

Pretty much any valve made today, except for the standard factory rotary valves, are similar in performance.
The overall idea is to have a consistent pathway through the valve and associated tubing.

But each valve will feel and respond differently to each player.

Shame there aren't as many non-stock options in the 530 or 547 size. Is Hagmann the only aftermarket rotary in that size or am I forgetting something? At least the King & Yamaha rotors of those sizes are pretty good as far as I can tell.

where are you going to put them?

Ive been playing them for something like a month now. The bottom line, really nice valves. Really well made, great sound, definitely squeezing every once of performance out of a rotor design. I have 3 horns schedule to be built with them, so there will be more in the wild shortly.

I‘ll replace some Lätzsch valves with them.
