Job opening: Assistant/Associate Professor of Trombone at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Post by yeodoug »

Hello all,

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has just announced the search for a full-time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Trombone. The position starts on August 16, 2023. See the job posting here:

https://illinois.csod.com/ux/ats/career ... c=illinois

Some of you may know that after the abrupt retirement of UIUC's previous trombone professor in late May 2022, a search was made for someone to teach at Illinois for a year while the University decided how it wanted to move forward with the position. After that search was concluded, I was offered the position and I'm honored to be teaching at Illinois during the 2022-2023 year of transition. I'm also very pleased that the University has committed to a full-time tenure track trombone professor position going forward. As you may know, higher education is facing a lot of challenges these days, and many colleges and universities are moving to more and more adjunct, part time professors. That Illinois is making a commitment to a full-time tenure track position at this time is a very, very good thing for our program.

Please help to get the word out about this position. In order to hopefully identify, interview, and hire an outstanding candidate and have that person in place to start the fall 2023 semester, this search is on a fast track. Screening of applications will begin on January 20, 2023. Jim Pugh is chairing the committee; I will not be on the committee but I will be helping the committee in any way they ask of me. Illinois is a superb school with great facilities, a great faculty, and talented, hard-working students. Today, I wrote something on my blog about the position that might help people get a little more insight to what we're doing at Illinois:

Spread the word and if you're interested and qualified, please apply. I look forward to handing off the position to an enthusiastic, transformative teacher in a few months.

Kind regards to all,

Douglas Yeo
