2023 Tchaikovsky Competition

Post by DanTheMan1289 »

It was recently released that applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Tchaikovsky Competition. With the happenings in Russia, do y’all expect to see an increase in boycotts for this year’s competition?

I suppose it's up to the individual if they want to be seen competing with others in St. Petersburg over music for the honor of getting to flock around Vladimir Putin while he talks to the "winners".

I don't think it is him, though. No way would JB be in a music college. It's a fair question. I didn't realize just how deep in with the Russian government the competition actually is until I looked it up. No fault in asking.

Is this the competition where bass trombonists sit on stage and play through their favorite Tchaikovsky excerpts?

No - that's the punishment for viola players that don't place well in their competition.

Not sure if this is typical for this competition, but they appear to have fully recycled the repertoire from the 2019 competition. I really cannot imagine that too many brass players from North America or anywhere in Europe besides Russia will compete.
