Low Brass ensemble sheet music

Post by marccromme »

I will assemble soon the low brass members of my community concert band for a low brass only rehearsal session, with conductor, and are seeking for low brass ensemble sheet music.

We are 4 french horn, 3 tenor and 1 bass trombone, 2 euph, 1 bass tuba F, 1 contrabass tuba Bb, all read bass clef, except treble clef in F for the Frensh horns.

I plan to do the F transpositions of the two upper voices of Crespo Etude im Still Bruckners myself, and put two instruments on each of the 6 voices.

Similarily would like to find some 8, 10 or 12 voice pieces which can easily adapted to above instrumentation.

Would be an advantage if sheet music was available in Lilypond or similar, such that I can transpose mechanical, but manual pencil transposition from my side is OK too.

Do you have any suggestions?

I think there is a version of the Bruckner etude for 2 horns, 3 trombones and 2 tuba - as recorded by German Brass. IIRC it's one note higher.

Basically any trombone octet could work, but would need transposition/transcription for the horns.

You could consider the Capriol Suite by Warlock. I think it's arranged for 8 trombones. If I am not mistaken, then this is available for a lot of other instrumentations, so it's certainly "allowed" to transfer it to your mix of instruments.

Also consider any Gabriele/Bach/Bruckner choral works. They are great for brass and might even be available in your exact instrumentation.

Check Cherry Classics for the trombone octet arrangement.
