Conn 5G rim "feel" for a Bach 36B?

I'm currently using a 6 3/4C for my 36B, but I don't love the mpc. It gets the job done, I much prefer it over a 6 1/2AL, and it actually sounds decent enough, but I've never found it particularly comfortable. A touch too sharp and/or small, maybe? Who knows.

Regardless, my 88H came with a Conn 5G whose rim feels incredibly comfortable to me. What might be a suitable small shank doppelganger that'll pair well with the 36B? My understanding is "Conn 5G <> Bach 5G", with the Conn 5G perhaps running a bit smaller. Of course, I also understand "Bach 5G <> Another Bach 5G", so there's that.

I know the best thing to do is to try several options, so I'm looking to trial a Bach 5 / 5G / 5GS - but is there anything else I should be considering? Can I expect any of the Bach 5x's to both 1) match the Conn 5G comfort-wise, and 2) mesh with the medium bore?

You may find what you want with a Doug Elliott mouthpiece - the 101 rim is probably in the right size range to match your Conn 5G rim. Doug makes a couple of different rim shapes (narrow, wide, etc.) that might help with finding what's comfortable. There are also some other manufacturers whose "5" rims might be comfortable for you, or you could find another Conn 5G and have the rim cut off and made into a screw rim to fit on a threaded underpart of a cup that works on your 36B.

5G IMO is too deep for .525".
5GS is more appropriate.
Conn rim shape is a little different than Bach's but you have to try it to decide if it is good for you.

My LT series 101 is a good match, but the best cup depends on how you use that particular horn and what kind of sound you need. Do you use it as a small "large bore" or a big "small bore"? My guess is you want a significantly smaller effect than the 88H.
LT 101 rim with D, D4 or D+, D+4 or E, E4 are all good choices. They're around 6-1/2 size, but you'd probsbly like them a lot better.

Doug is (of course) right on. My choice would be a (recent) E4 Shank, an LT E Cup, and an LT 100 or LT 101 Rim. Nice combo with a Bach 36 (or Conn 79H).

Hi, Doug - Mainly looking for a small “large bore” with this particular piece. I just really enjoy the comfort of that Conn rim. I’m out of town the rest of the week, but I’d be very interested in pursuing this and I’m certainly open to your advice/recommendstions!
