Trombone and Harp Duets

Post by ttf_anonymous »

Hi, Ive been looking around for trombone and harp duet pieces to play with a harpist. Just wondering if you guys know any good pieces, both original compositions and arrangements of other pieces. Thanks

Mozart wrote a piece for clarinet and harp that would probably work very well.  I think it's called "The Shepherd on the Rock".

Quite a few Dutch composers writing for the duo of Brandt Attema and Astrid Haring. Bass trombone and harp, but you could probably play up an octave where necessary. Here's a place to start:

Nitzan Haroz has played some recitals with his Mom, who is a professional harpist back in Israel. I know that they've commissioned some pieces. Also, Joe Alessi has recorded a few short pieces for that combination - check his publications on his website to see what's available. Norman Bolter has a nice work - "Lakes" for that combination (it's a mvt. of a longer work for alto, tenor and bass - different horns for each mvt. - this one is for tenor).

I believe That would be Schubert.

You could arrange:

Meditation from Thais
The Swan
Cavelleria Rusticana Intermezzo
Sonata Pathetique (Beethoven)
Ave Maria (harp on the Bach part used as harmony)

Those would work well!

There's a Scott Hartman arr. of the Massenet - Thais - the accomp. says piano, but it works w/harp. Check out the Joe Alessi recording. I've played it w/harp - no major work needed to adjust the arr. for change of instrument. There are a couple of other works on Joe's site that he has recorded with harp as well - same deal with adjusting the accomp.
