CAD / 3D Bell Model

Post by ttf_Wasatch Oz »

This is a far out, crazy question, but you never know unless you ask.

I'm looking for an accurate full length CAD / 3D Model of a Bach 36/42 bell.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

You asked if we'd seen anything "like this"; this is not quite what you're asking for, but it may give you some fun leads--

(1) Pieter had a whole thread going about 3D-printing a trombone. His designs are available on GitHub (https://github.com/pieterbos/PrintBone), but they're based on "the model of a trombone with bessel curves published in the PhD thesis of Alistair C.P. Braden, Bore Optimisation and Impedance Modelling of Brass Musical Instruments, University of Edinburgh, 2006." It fits a Bach 42 slide, but is not an accurate Bach 42 bell. The leadpipe is "inspired by" a Conn 88H.

(2) Significantly less useful, but when else will I get to share this bit of trivia?-- My third ever 3D assignment was to photograph an object from all angles and model it using NURBS. Of course I did my trombone. So I have an old Maya file of a Bach 36 somewhere, but it is inaccurate, not to scale, and probably of no use to anyone.

I could do a flare for you tomorrow, if that would help.
