Fellow trombonist,
I am thinking of starting an online forum to raffle off professional trombones and other musical instruments. If you are interested in raffles please email me directly and I will invite you to the raffle page.
Our first raffle will be the a brand new Shires Q series tenor trombone.
It is a game of chance but you could get a trombone for $36.00.
Email me if you are interested.

A cursory reading of the Raffles FAQ on the CA Dept of Justice website and the related statutes suggests that only non-profit organizations are permitted to operate raffles in CA.
Have the provisions of CA Penal Code section 320.5 been amended recently to permit for-profit organizations to operate raffles, and to permit raffles to be advertised and conducted via the Internet?

You are assuming that this "raffle" is in California or based in the USA for that matter.
Thanks for looking up the law though.

Assume - to make a guess based on little or no evidence
Presume to make an informed guess based on reasonable evidence
Given the business names, address, and phone number associated with the raffle in the OP are all located in California, USA, and in the absence of an explict statement disassociating the raffle with the locales and businesses listed, I think it's reasonable to PRESUME that the information in OP is intended to create the impression that the raffle is being conducted by the individual and business(es) located at the address given in the OP.
If that is not the case, then in the interest of clarity, who is actually conducting the raffle, where is the raffle based, and under what legal jurisdication is the raffle being operated to ensure prospective ticket buyers that the prizes will actually be awarded, irregardless of the number of tickets sold?

what do the quotation marks mean? If the "raffle" is taking place in Nigeria I'm definitely in!

Um.... who cares what it's called? It's you paying less money for something than what it's worth. Mr Hand saw fit to hook up some fellow Bonists with a horn, for less than what it's worth. Sign. Me. Up.

There's a raffle ad on AM radio around here for a million dollar home in Silicon Valley, with other prizes too.
So ... me thinks there's an established way to do it.
Buyer beware and all that.

Is this a raffle to benefit a worthy, non-profit cause?

Probably "MEP" (My Empty Pockets).
Or maybe Eric's store hasn't made a profit so he can call it "non-profit"
