Each "valve" actuates a reed. You'll notice the keys are laid out like a piano keyboard. Works like a toy trumpet.

Some one should buy that and do a cutaway of it so that the world can see out how such a thing could possibly work.
I had a plastic version of this when I was a kid. But it only had 5 'valves' and played an out of tune pentatonic scale.
