For those of you who enjoyed Cutty Cutshall with Wild Bill playing in a Condon band, here is some more. I am not sure if I posted these previously but they are from a Goodyear film.

This is my first post... Image

I saw that there were more video's than I'd like to watch in one sitting posted here, and I wouldn't be surprised if everything's been posted twice.  But nevertheless I found these guys a few years back and I'm still impressed by them today.  Sorry if it's already been posted, but it's worth watching again Image

I did a gig with an old friend from Oklahoma on a trip to LA a few years back.  He was kind enough to post this clip on YouTube.  Please forgive the glistening complexion.  I went to the gig from the airport.....definitely not feeling fresh.

Great clip.

I'm still trying to figure it out though, when it was over, both of the links to new clips were for Wierd Al's "White and Nerdy." I didn't think Youtube made those kinds of judgements....  Image

The guy after him (Henry Southall) is funny to watch.  He's shreddin up the horn, though.

I am not keen on that style of soloing but the technique is great. Does anyone know if that is a standard chart of "Just Friends" that one can obtain from somewhere?

OK, Zemry- you really got me on this one...  that's pretty killer.

Not sure if this has been posted before, But I got a lot out of this JJ clip
J's playing is supremely elegant and swinging as usual.

I also thought this performance also had a great sense of melodic invention and development; he's really choosing his options carefully and fleshing out the tune thoroughly-  I think of those qualities as being central to the true spirit of the old school- call it "bebop" if you will..   in any case, it's so great to hear it coming from a master like this.

QuoteRichard Boone...anyone ever heard of him before? Not only that, Richard was a great friend. Moved to Denmark in the seventies after having left Basie and married a Danish girl, Inga. Very active on the local scene, 1980-1991 with Ernie Wilkins Almost Big Band (including other American expatriates like Sahib Shihab, Kenny Drew, Ed Thigpen, Tim Hagans and local Danish top-notch cats like Bent Jædig, Per Goldschmidt and Jesper Thilo on saxes and myself on bone (4 lps). Richard teamed up with Bent Jædig for the Boone-Jædig Quintet and also played for many years with the Danish Radio Big Band (a/o with Thad Jones 2 lps 1978). I was also in that band 1978-83, so we played a lot together. Later years also with the Sophisticated Ladies (Marie Louise Schmidt, Helle Marstrand, Benita Haastrup) as singer and trombonist.
Richard was much loved and highly respected and died some years back.
The sweetest cat.
The clip on Youtube is from local club the Slukefter, the Tivoli Gardens, Copenhagen (a local joint where the EWABB played a lot and also recorded live).

I don't know how long these vids have been online, but these are pretty rare! I wonder if there are more cuts from each session.

Two stages of Albert Mangelsdorff's career here:

Now Jazz Ramwong (pre multiphonics) - mid-60s

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42V8QIZ4bMc&mode=related&search=

And in a late recording with Wolfgang Dauner and a burning quintet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9ocJoUpVnQ&mode=related&search=

It starts like classical music, but wait!  Image

Anyone ever heard of Frantisek Jerabek? (Czech trombone player, probably everything that he plays will sound great..)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V0exLwBs3g <-- from his record, posaunen parade (you might want to try to find it, great music on it!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05u_L7o4dQo <-- live show, second part is also on the cd mentioned above (circus renz, very well-known tune in the netherlands, although it starts off a bit weird in this video..)

Aebersold sells that entire concert for $20.00. It's worth evey penny. He also has another dvd of JJ for sale. It's also worth every penny. Look and listen to them on a nice tv with a good sound system attached!

That's JJ playing his tuckus off. Not only would I call that kind of trombone performance elegant but that's STILL JJ exhibiting the kind of creativity and chops at 70 years old that 99% of the rest of us would kill for. And like all truly great performances the closer you listen the more you hear in it.

And all the trombone tricks stay in the bag. Another lesson from the master.

I have to say that this one does not swing quite enough for me, although the playing from those usually 'classical' types is very nice:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnGSD-GYq2g

Question: Is that a non-weighted Resistance Balancer that Christian is using, or is it ducting tape? My interest is due to the fact that this usual doubting Thomas (Me!) has now got Resistance Balancers installed on all horns and my tone is sounding much improved. Not that it was bad before, I stress.

Very low on the swing & style guage, as discussed elsewhere in a recent thread, though it's nice they were seemingly paying homage to JJ in front of a classical audience.

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=1oiA_gNZ7ag   Dolphin Dance

http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=i4PMgjyK8xI    Improvisation

Hey Graham,

Looks like duct tape to me. I'm guessing it is because that is an old video, going by Alessi's appearance. Probably before Lindberg designed the resistance balancers.

But, I continue to get very favorable comments on my tone.

And I just got another set, and will be trying them out on two other horns tomorrow.

Best $36 I've ever spent.
