Funny enough I had to shift in exact the same area when I was a student of C-O N.
Same with some other guys. I did never find out why.

C-O N, allways warned agaist opening the jaws, he was not awere about the fact that he did that him self. Very much.

Doesn't the remark "feel is more important than sound" apply to some of the Carmine Caruso studies?

I might be wrong here, but I think I've heard that when practising the six tones study.

I might be wrong here, but I think I've heard that when practising the six tones study.

Tom, I always thought it was to remember the feeling in the chops when a great-sounding note is produced. Then re-create that feeling on subsequent efforts and hopefully the great sound will re-appear.

Sure, but have a try at the six tones. I've heard trumpeters play that study with a terrible awful sound.

It is a very difficult study with a bad technique.
Not quite as difficult with a better technique.
With a good technique never as easy as it looks  Image

Okay, I know what you mean. I am still learning the best way to do rapid arpeggio slurs. I can do them with a bad sound or I can do them with a good sound. But an effortless good sound is still something for me to work at.
