Brush finish maintenance

I bought an Olds Special that has a wire/brush finish, It looks great and the horn plays well, but when I pulled the horn out of the closet after a few weeks, I noticed that some "wear" marks have shown up on the horn.
Is there something I can do to the horn to protect the finish?

Wax it. That's about it. Without lacquer eventually it will oxidize. If you polish it again you'll start to remove the brush finish.
