Bach 50B2

Okay, I really don't know what to do.....

I bought an old (corp. Elkhart) Bach 50B from an ex-student who was moving abroad and could only take one instrument. Now, this thing is USED.... really USED. A lot of work has been done on the bell... wear on the slide around where you hold it.... and a bit on the inners... tiny dings on the outers.... and that stupid valve lever set up....BUT.... lube the slide and blow it and it is one of the best Bachs I have ever played.... big, rich, vibrant.... so nice.
I am not a Bach guy.
So... I am thinking two ways.... just pass it on as is for $900 or tidy it and put on a 'Brasslab' Ported Bach valve open wrap Indi rotor set, which would then need to get $2900 to see me right. A big difference...
What do you guys think ??

I think you have to ask yourself: Will I become a Bach guy?...

I've had Bachs in the past.... they are wonderful, but require lots of practise every day.... I'm too old and too lazy. I only bought it to help an ex-student out.... never intended to use it.

Is that the 'as is' version or the 'fixed up' version ???

Possible alternative would be to modify it to work with one of your other horns. I think you have a Rath, right? The best Bach 50 I've ever laid my hands on is owned by Neobri. It was converted to Rath Hagmanns. Not sure what the tuning slide is but the tenon was swapped out and the valve section is - as far as I can tell - stock Rath. Wonderful, wonderful horn. And way less than $3k!! Assuming you already have possible rotor section that is modular.

I think that is the Bach I sold him.... very nice horn, converted by Mick Rath himself. The Raths I have are from the same player.
I am beginning to think it best to pass this horn on as is .....

Now that you mention it... I think it is that horn! He let me use it for a recording session a few months back and I know he uses it for similar things so it's getting good use!!

Sounds a bit like my cantankerous old Bach. Similar era. There was always something about the sound, but never really loved it until I put my other basses down and committed to it full-time.

How low is the S/N, fossil/blast? Mine's 85xx
