I think the opera wheel, tighter flare model officially came on stream in 1937 but examples were being built (pre pro ?) from 1934. Others may know more.

Another Conn 70H question. I asked a lot of people, but get confusing answers...
The 70H slide inners are longer than standard. But how long are they?
Allied lists the 71 & 72 inners at 27 3/8" long. Are the 70H inners even longer?

Then mine is longer than yours....hermmm
About 7 cm or 2.6 inches to be serious....
Ok that wasn't nice. I think Conn change the wrap and design about 1937-40. Then the long slide appear. About 1953-54 they also change the wrap a little bit. 1954-55 the protection on the top was taken away. 56 the 72H replaced the 70h? No more TIS. Just guessing though ...I dont really know but think its about the story.

Yes, original.. The long slide came later and probably coincide with the new wrap which already had been an option for a while.. Both designed to facilitate low C and B...

Ok. So I have bought two 70H's. One wasn't enough
One from 1937 with a longer bell but shorter slide.
One from 1948 with shorter bell but longer slide.
It looks like I will have to replace the inners on the 1937 horn. Those inners seem to be something like 27" long. Exactly same slide length as my modern edwards slide. So the inners of a 71H may fit. Allied lists the 71 & 72 inners at 27 3/8" long.
The inners on the 1948 are much longer at about 29" (7cm difference).
What do the experts think? Will the 71H slide inners fit?

The 71H inners will be too long. You want 62H or 60H inners. My '34 70H has the shorter slide.
Chris.

Sorry to resurrect a dormant topic... My 1952 measures similarly - 29” to 29.125”.
For the purposes of ordering new inners, are both inner slide tubes the same length?
And given the option, would anyone recommend ordering long inners for my tech to trim rather than ordering the "exact" length?

For sure - order them long!

FWIW- I had a wheelhouse 70H from 1934. The bell was what I would consider a "standard" taper (like on a 62H). I have a '21 and that I believe is the Fuchs taper. Smaller bell; a lot faster taper in the throat. It barks on command.

What is different to 60h/62h "no brace" and one brace (opera wheel) on 70h?
IMO, 70h braced slide has more weight and heavy sound and difficult to quick play.
