BACH 42 Slide
I am playing a 42 G* with a 50 slide. I would like to pick up a standard 42 slide. My question:
Will a Shires or Edwards slide fit the 42 without modifications? It would be nice to have a slide
with removal leadpipes.
Thanks

Re: BACH 42 Slide
Edwards yes, Shires yes with an asterisk. Shires threads are slightly different, and the taper can be a mismatch as well.
Both are shorter, so be aware tuning will be a bit different.

^^^THIS^^^
I had a Bach (@Adian) that I tried 3 different Edwards slides on. I ended up selling it because
A. I could not get the slides to agree with the bell
B. The intonation was weirder than a normal Bach, which is already much weirder than a Shires

Re: BACH 42 Slide
I have an Bach slide that fits my Edwards horns close enough. The slide tenon does not go in all the way and as such the nut threads on just a few threads. Push the tuning slide in a half inch and go.
So if all things are the same then a Edwards slide may be loose.

Re: BACH 42 Slide
The first Edwards horns were intended to be used with a Bach slide. They didn’t start making their own slides until a couple of years in, I think, so in theory, an Edwards slide should be the same scale as a Bach.

I'd say this is uncommon. I've never had an Edwards slide that didn't fit perfectly. What's the combo you have?whitbey wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 11:00 am I have an Bach slide that fits my Edwards horns close enough. Re: BACH 42 Slide
I have 2 Edwards 547 horns. With the extra neckpipe 3 receivers. I have a 547/562 and 525/547 Edwards slides. Then I have a 547/562 Bach slide and a 562 Bach slide from my bass. The 562 slide is close. The 547/562 Bach is good enough.Burgerbob wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 2:19 pmI'd say this is uncommon. I've never had an Edwards slide that didn't fit perfectly. Re: BACH 42 Slide
Interesting. I would chalk that up to Bach rather than Edwards, though.
