Techs, is it unethical to clean your horn at work?

Ive always just brought in some of my horns that i buy that haven’t been cleaned for decades and thought it was cool. No one every stopped me and questioned me and i thought because i did it on my lunch brake that it was fine, but one of the techs that i work with soldered on a brace for me recently and said that i should clean it “under the radar”. So is it wrong to i guess take advantage of where you work? They charge $175-200 for an ultrasonic clean and i make minimum wage so that’s like a weeks worth of work for me. Every since he said that i’ve been uneasy, i’m not really a person that takes risks and i hate the possibility of me getting in trouble.

You may have been off the clock, but you were using shop equipment and materials.

Ask your boss if it is ok. He may give you a reduced rate if it’s not totally free.

Also, make sure you tell him it's a personal horn and not you trying to make extra money on the side stealing business from him.

I asked him and forgot to update this. He said one horn a month is fine.
