FE Olds & Son Tuba Info needed

Post by Nhtrombone »

I know, I know.....it's not a trombone.

Anywho. I have FE Olds & Son (yes, the same company) Tuba with 3 front action pistons. Serial is 525*** Based on what I can find online for serial numbers, it was built between 1964 and 1971. Wondering if anyone has any other information about and if there's a reliable source for parts?

Thanks

I'm going to assume your tuba is an Olds O99-3. The bore should be 0.658", it's technically larger than a 3/4 size tuba but smaller than a 4/4 size. Good smallish tubas. Practically the same instrument as the Conn 4J, Bach Mercedes and Reynolds TB-10 tubas, with subtle differences. Unfortunately the important parts (like pistons) are incompatible across most of these tubas... Reynolds parts might work in the Olds, but Bach and Conn parts definitely will not. If you need any substantial parts, you need to either buy a parts horn or find someone who has parts (I would suggest the Frankentubas group on Facebook).

I have an Olds Fullerton O-99-41
Right now I can't remember where the serial number is on that horn and I don't see it.

They're very easy to play.
