Mr. Halliburton passed away in early 2019. His name won’t be familiar with many but there was a time when he definitely was a “player” in the bands of Dorsey, Kenton and Mancini. It is interesting that he apparently chose a very different career after have played with the top bands.

He was amongst the band personnel in one of my very favorite Mancini recordings, “Mancini ‘67”. Dick Nash is featured as a soloist in that recording, playing “Shadow of your smile” and as amazing as it is, what REALLY strikes me are the unbelievable background chords the rest of the section makes (Jimmy Priddy, John Halliburton and George Roberts on bass).

He really was a team player and I just thought his name should not be forgotten.

I believe Mr Halliburton also played in the Glenn Miller Orchestra where he would have bee sat along side Jimmy Priddy.
So many great players from that era.... we'll never see quite their like again.
