Shires TII5YVNY bell weight?

Does anyone know if the TII5YVNY is closest to a medium weight or a lightweight bell in the Shires scheme of things?

I'm guessing there's some other voodoo going on here as well that they like to keep to themselves.

I'd like to know what ballpark we're in here as it's not clear from the designation like most of the other bells.

The TII5YVNY is made with Shires’ standard gauge brass (slightly heavier than their medium gauge). Ben Griffin (sp?) told me that the “Chicago” bell is a TII5GVNY in medium gauge. The medium gauge obviously trying to match the lighter gauge Bach 42G bells that Jay Friedman has preferred for many years.

Hmmm, I'm not sure either of those bells are that heavy but unfortunately don't have either to try.

In this video Ben states the Chicago bell is LW gold brass.


In the corrosponding NY video there is no mention of the bell weight which is kinda why I was asking.


Surely both these bells which are essentially emulating the Vintage Bach style are around LW in Shires terminology? Most shires bells have the weight stamped on but these "named" bells don't so it's interesting to find out what they are nearest to.

No. The Vintage New York bell is noticeably heavier than their 7YLW, for example.
