I've been playing a King 4b for a long time but never have figured the purpose of the small 3rd tuning slide on the F attachment. It's not removable. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks.

The small wide tuning slide closest to the valve is to tune the F attachment. The longer narrower slide can be pulled out to convert from F to E natural. If I'm wrong on this, somebody please chime in.

Unless I'm crazy, there's only two, like Kingfan said.

My 3B/F has a similar setup, and I use it Kingfan's manner- small one is for tuning, long one is to empty water and pull to E. None of the other tubes move.

I guess you could call it 3: the main tuning slide, the tuning slide on the long loop (for E pull), and the tuning slide on the short loop.

When I had my King 4B I used the slides like Kingfan said.

Note that on some Symphony models there is only one tuning slide on the F-attachment.

It's for tuning the F attachment. I don't bother using the one on my 3B.
