Has anybody ever tried this? The valve design is very strange. I don't think Iv'e ever seen anything like this. Seems like it would be a lot less freeblowing then a more traditionally- designed instrument.

Probably not. I'll bet it plays very well. And it looks great!

That's a big rotor. Probably plays nice and open.

Well I was talking about how the bends in to the middle.

The valve is probably open enough to make up for those pretty large radius bends. They definitely don't look tighter than a closed wraps bends.

Not any more tight than something like the U bends on a Greenhoe, which play great (with a smaller rotor to boot).
I think the lesson here is that it's easy to attribute open
looking things with open
playing things. Just like the popular opinion that silver plated instruments are brighter... because they look brighter.

Notice also that the tubing right by the valve does not have a "knuckle". This could make the blow much more open.
Interesting design. I like it.

Could be essentially the same valve.

Yeah the bend is so subtle and spread over a distance. What an idea!

The horn look really nice. I tested lots of Voight horns years ago, they do make wonderful horns.

Similar design in the Bach Artisan series, except the X wrap, smooth bendings, large rotor, big ears. Seems this is the new accepted design.
X wrap actually costs a half circle more in bend than the King, Conn or Artisan wrap.
And yes, I never understood why the Greenhorn design does everything right except for the rather small radius U bend.
Could easily be avoided ...
