Can someone tell me what's going on here? It looks like a mouthpiece is soldered to the bell. :???: :idk:

I think that's probably exactly right. Looks like someone wanted to make a bugle/horn thing... that's one way to do it!

I offered 100 for it... no dice. Oh well. Cool engraving!

There’s another Bach 36 bell on EBay from the same seller. This one does not have mouthpiece soldered in it, but it does have two circular handle soldered on it….they look like thumb hooks from baritones.

The seller is ... unusual.

Wonder what lead pipes they use? :idk:

These bells may have potential for shiny wall decorations, lamps, sconces, vases, ...

eBay has something for everybody.

The joint looks like J-B Weld instead of solder to me (Now that's a trivial comment, if I do say so myself.). I'd think that pulling out the tuning slide of a trombone and putting a mouthpiece in the hole to make some noise would approximate the sound of this thing. I'm not sure if I want to waste the effort and the 17 seconds of my valuable time it would take to find out. I've already thrown away more time on this post, though. Decisions, decisions!

Yeah, I saw that too. I actually bought something similar a couple of years ago just to get the bell - from a Bach 36. Now it's on an 8h frankenbone. I got mine for much less, though. I think it has some ceremonial use, like calling people to dinner time or a frat house ceremony. This one has those premium finger rings that mine didn't have. The mouthpiece on mine was forced into the bell with a bunch of electrical tape.

And it sounded awful, by the way. Didn't sound musical at all. Think cow horn sort of sound, but worse.

Now showing without the mouthpiece when you click on the link above. Now has the two rings like the other one. Looks like the mouthpiece was cut off because the top of the bell looks to be rough and trimmed at an angle.

The first one sold for best offer. This is the other one. Is a bell worth money in the range the seller is asking?

A semi-mutilated 36 bell, post-Corp era? Personally, I'd say absolutely not even close.

Looks like they changed the pictures so that now they both show the same bell. Hopefully no one decides to buy those... things.

Perhaps you could mount this thing on your car's front fender, add a squeeze bulb and vibrating reed, and have yourself the world's coolest ah-ooga horn!
