Hey all! Long time lurker first time poster. I played in middle and high school and decided to pick it up again as a fun hobby now that my kids are learning music.

Anyway, I picked up a used Conn 23H and for the life of me can’t seem to date it. Conn’s serial number chart didn’t help at all.

The only number I can find on it is on the cross bar on the bell me at where it meets the slide and reads 984876, which doesn’t match up. It looks like a normal 80/90s horn. Nothing fancy.

It's been a rough stretch here but I don't think I'm quite that desperate yet.

I'm pretty sure student models after a certain point will not match the serial list. They had their own serials.

You should at least get to know her first. Might change your mind.

Judging from the shape of the case, I would guess 90's or newer. It looks like a really clean horn Enjoy!

I have the Bach version and find it is a good horn. Played it with a swing orchestra last night instead of my large bore Courtois. Unfortunately everyone else in the section was playing large bores or bass trombones.

If everyone were playing on smaller horns it would of worked well. Even so I had no trouble blending with them, just had to play louder to keep from being covered up.

I think they a good players.

Is this "student" 23H trombone the Conn equivalent of the Bach TB300 and the King 606 (which seem to be nearly identical)? All made in Eastlake, Ohio?

Thanks everyone! I figured it was a 90s horn because I remember a lot of kids in school that had cases like this and that was the 90s.

It’s funny how after all these years it comes back to you. I’m nowhere near as good of a player as anyone here, but it’s just for fun.

I have a 23H as a back up to my 6H that I am playing now. Slides are interchangeable and sometimes prefer the 6H bell with the 23H slide.

The Conn 23H and the Bach Soloist are seemingly horns pieced together from left over parts. Several unique features of the 23H and the Soloist (straight horn, there is a Bb/F but it is different) are a rose brass outer slide with a nickel-silver crook. There is also more nickel-silver on the slide corks and in the area of the tuning slide.

I recently received a Christian Lindberg 13CL mouthpiece for mine and it works very well--better than the 10CL I had previously.
