Opinions on Blessing B78

There is a Blessing B78 going for $200 locally. I don't know the vintage. I know a guy with a 2B who is looking for a larger bore F attachment horn for concert band and think this .525 horn might be a good buy for him. Anybody familiar with these horns?

B-78 was Blessing's attempt to emulate the Conn 79H. It's a competent horn, although not quite a Conn. Great for an amateur, a student, or a pro with a hazardous gig. And at that price it's a steal.

Thanks! Yeah, an amateur getting back into playing. He has a line on a nice 4B-F at a great price ($500) and if that falls through the Blessing might be a good second choice.

Tonight my buddy just got a deal on the King 4B-F he was chasing for three months now. The Blessing is up for grabs.

The Blessing B78 slide also mates up perfectly with an 8H/88H bell, giving you a cheap way to have a .525” slide for it if the B78 bell is not to your liking.

I have a B88 and a B7......I Like the B88, but not the B7 as much.....The B7 is much more student'ty (yes made up that word)....It has the built in counterbalance and is very slide heavy....It doesn't balance well, But as with the OP, they pop up on the cheap side sometimes. I grabbed the B7 a few years ago off here because the straights don't surface much. They are awesome to play with as far as beginners trying other bore sizes. As far as the B88 I couldn't be happier, as a adult student is is perfect. It would serve well as a second horn for advanced players i'm sure. Its perfect for a Community Band. The The .525 slide does work OK on the B88, so I'm guessing a conn slide will work . For 200 bucks its a no brainer. The bell section alone is worth that, add a solid case and a decent slide. Its a steal and betting it won't last long.

The Blessing is sold. My buddy did great with the King 4B-F deal - it looks basically brand new! On stuck tuning slide. The rotor was slow but I hit it with some lube at band rehearsal and it freed right up. I've been loaning him my King 5G, and another member is going to let him borrow a Bach 6 1/1AL. Happy for him, but my King 4B of the same vintage looks like a piece of crap in comparison.

I'm curious if anyone has tried putting a different leadpipe in the Blessing horns and if that has made a serious difference in the quality of the horns?
