Is Kanstul still in business? Their website is still active.

No, alas, they are not. I really love my Kanstul. I keep hearing that BAC bought much of their tooling and may make some look-a-likes, but so far haven't heard anything real about that.

They are unfortunately not active anymore. The front page of their website gives a pretty good explanation:

The only Kanstul items you can still buy new are a couple of unmounted parts on eBay, including a flugelhorn bell.

Everything else relies on BAC to do something with all that tooling.

Don't hold your breath!

You can note my breath as very much unheld. In fact, it is exceptionally performing standard breathing procedures as we speak.

I did have a good experience with BAC in fixing an existing instrument.

I got to work with Kevin Stiles on my Kanstul Contrabass Trombone Slide. It was never right from when it was originally built. 5+ years of frustration with my instrument. Compression on the slide was non-existent.

Kevin troubleshooted the slide, had the outer tubes re-done, did a lightweight slide conversion. His follow up was fantastic, kept me updated on each step of the way.

This is instrument is a totally different instrument...one that I am not fighting anymore and enjoying so much more...even after 3 days.

I really appreciate BAC's help. This was not a simple build, it was an out of the box kind of thing.

I really value the time I spent with Zyg, he was old school and would share nuggets now and then- he’d been in the biz a long time! That era is gone and thankfully we still have the Getzen’s!
