I just bought a TR180 on FB Marketplace. Can't wait till it arrives!

It's in original condition. Triggers have not been split.

Currently playing a 72H with a Yamaha strap.

But the 180 handslide doesn't look like it is braced as heftily as the Conn and I don't want to misalign the inner slides with a strap.

What's my best option for a support that will allow for operating the original dependent configuration?

A strap will be fine. You'd have to put some serious torque through the receiver to misalign it, with how close the receiver is to the brace. I used one on my 180 for years.

Neotech grip fits well on my Holton 180 slide and supports the weight comfortably. It puts your palm a bit out from the slide, which may actually help you reach the proper position to operate the Glantz bar more easily than a strap would.

Holton handgrips are chrome plated brass, not solid nickel as on a Conn. They are a little more prone to misalignment if they are handled too roughly.

You posted it just as I was making the correction. Ya gotta be quick around here.

I used a leather specialties strap on my current 180 for a bit before I had the levers split. It didn't really seem to help that much.

I played a different TR180 quite a bit back in college without any grip support. It's doable after you get used to it and build up some hand strength. I think that horn must have had lighter valve springs as well. My current 180, before the modifications, had terribly stiff valve springs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I bought a Neotech. It took me several try's to get it positioned correctly. Works great!
