OMG, I just saw my idol play on her new 2B Legend and I noticed that the water key is a only a little trumpet style lever.
When did that happen?
Why?
I thought this was a copy of the original design.

Some old Libertys have the same spit valve design. I have a friend with a '40s horn like that.

I think some of the new Jupiter small bore pro jazz models have a trumpet-style water key on them. If you are trying to make the slide lighter, using a smaller water key is a logical place to start.

It has to be reachable. I have a trumpet key on my old Jupiter. It was a repair.
I find it hooks on stuff and is hard to reach.
There was obviously a reason for the lever design of a trombone key.

Hey, I never said it was good! I have the same design on the Butler carbon fiber slide I just got and I don't like it.

I wonder if it is an option perhaps? I do not see it on all of the pictures when searching.

My understanding is it is a feature of the Jiggs Whigham model trombone.

Yep. The Jiggs 2B has the trumpet style waterkey.

I had no idea they made different 2B models.
I thought a 2B is a 2B.
Interesting.

I have a 1990s 2B that has a regular key. But a 2B+ that owned once (also from the 90s?) had the "Amado" key.

Surely that would be much worse?
