H N White/King Trombonium Mouthpiece Receiver.

A friend has recently got an H N White/King trombonium from 1947, (serial number 294***) but is having difficulty matching a mouthpiece to the receiver. Standard small shank pieces seem to not go in far enough and wobble.

Does the trombonium use a special size mouthpiece or is there another problem such as distortion or partial blockage of the receiver?

Are there any experts on Tromboniums out there?

Cheers

Maybe it's an alto horn, not a trombonium.

Thanks Doug, but it is definitely a King Trombonium, pitched in Bb and with a removable, forward facing bell :)
My first brass instrument experience was on a tenor(alto) horn in a British brass band, probably before you were born! :shuffle: , so I am aware of the difference :ugeek: .

Hi Stewbones, thanks for posting in search of a mouthpiece. I took the trombonium to Valve & Reed and mentioned about having the receiver reamed to provide a better fit. A safer option, similar to your suggestion regarding having a mouthpiece adjusted, Stephen mentioned contacting Mick Rath about making a new mouthpiece to fit.
