Old Conn Trombone inner slides

I have a couple of very old (1952 & 1955) Conn 8H/88H trombone slide. There are a couple of spots on the stockings where the chrome plating has worn through. The metal under the plating is silver colored. On the newer Conn trombones, the metal is brass colored. Were the old Conn inner slide tubes nickel sliver?

The newer ones are still chrome-plated nickel-silver. It is possible that there is a layer of copper plating between them. Copper helps some platings adhere - not sure if they use that with chrome.

Nickel Silver is part copper, so I don't think they use a copper "flash coat" underneath, like they would if they were plating "production" chrome onto steel.
