Hi all - I recently became aware of an upcoming graphic novel based on the life of legendary Jamaican trombonist Don Drummond.

Here's the trailer:

As a tangent, the author is collecting interviews with significant trombone players from the ska/reggae world, and was nice enough to include me. Check it out!

I looked at the KS page but... it hasn't launched yet, right?

It just says "coming soon"

I think it's launching later this year.

I loved Heather’s book so I look forward to the graphic novel. I also really enjoyed the interview. You were my favorite trombonist of the 90s ska era. To this day any trombone mix tape/ playlist I make always has NY Ska Jazz’s Bob Barker on it.

Excited to see this got fully funded! Also, great interview, Rick (we crossed paths years ago in the 90s in the Detroit area when you were playing with The Toasters and NYSJE - I was often playing with The Articles, Exceptions, or Skolars back at many of those dates).

Thanks! (Guess it's been a while since I frequented this forum.). Glad to know anybody still remembers me, 25+ years on...

What have you been up to trombone wise in the last 25+ years?

I stopped touring in 2000 to focus on my family. Since then I've been teaching and freelancing in the NYC area - lots of jazz and Latin music, with the occasional ska or reggae gig. Also doing a lot of composing and arranging. Here are a couple of recent recording projects:

An EP with Crazy Baldhead:

With Los Mas Valientes, a Latin jazz group I've played with since '97:

And a live jazz duo recording with NYSJE pianist Cary Brown:
