My Nutcracker

Last week, a tubist informed me that the orchestra we play in would read through Nutcracker Suite followed by food for the last rehearsal before Christmas. Our bass trombonist, she said, was 50/50 but leaning towards attending, I spoke to second who indicated she would come. Great. For various reasons, it would be only the second time this season we had a full section.
Yesterday morning the tubist informed me she had come down with COVID. I never ever heard from the bass trombone. The 2nd informed me something had come up.
So I was on my own. I played principal on the first pass, bass part on the second. Great fun.
