New Tab when clicking links

Would it be possible to change settings to open a new tab when clicking a link? I know I have a bad habit of accidentally closing my tab when I finish looking at someone's photos or whatever external link they posted.

If you're on a computer, middle click or ctrl+click to open a new tab.

What I do is to right click on the link and select "Open in new tab". I haven't found a way to make the Board do this automatically.

Also: your web browser might have a Re-Open Closed Tab tool. On desktop FireFox, it's a right-click in the upper menu bar. On mobile Safari, shake the device to activate the undo close tab menu.

Thanks all. I am familiar with opening a link in a new tab.

phpBB should have a setting that can be changed to automatically add the feature. I was just making the suggestion to add the convenience.

I've been looking all over. Vivaldi and Firefox do this automatically, EXCEPT for this board. Couldn't find anything on my dashboard either.

I accidentally close the window all the time. I just reopen and use history if I can’t remember the link. If you do it enough you might remember to click back. I never remember though. :shuffle:

I do this too, so have become best friends with Ctrl+Shift+T to quickly reopen closed tabs in some browsers, or long press the '+' new tab button in Mobile Safari to get a list of recently closed tabs

I can add a custom BB code, but people would have to know to use it:

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/bbco ... n_new_tab/

Alternatively, I might be able to make it moving forward that external links default to that (I can customize the HTML that is generated by the BB code that invokes a foreign link). Honestly, this would be surprising and disruptive to how I use it but I often have unusual preferences to the point where if I think something works well, the opposite of that is probably what I should do

eBay is automatically opening new tabs when I click on something. I do not like it.

Ebay does this when I have done a search and am looking at items from the search. If I have items on My Ebay and I look at them it opens in the same tab.

Since you are considering feature suggestions... how about menu item:

Active topics (no classifieds)

Unfortunately, that one is definitely impossible with the way the software is currently built. I can, however, add you to a special group we created awhile ago that is "banned" from the classifieds section but then, of course, you'd have to log out or use a private window to see the classifieds. EDIT: Actually, I forgot we blocked that from public view because of the scammer problem. You'd actually have to make a 2nd account to see the classifieds in that case.

EDIT: You might try bookmarking this awful URL:

That does solve the problem. Thanks!
