What kind of mutt? King 607

I was considering selling my King 607 and started doing a little research on it. I found the serno for the bell section and it shows 181xxx. Puts it in production sometime between 1935 and 1940. I was looking for the serno on the slide and it doesn't match... It has a serno on the 1st and 2nd cross brace both are C-5456... So what slide might this be from?

It could be much more modern. King reset serial numbers to 100000 after 999999 some time in the 1990s and yours may date from after the rollover.

Thanks Bruce, my slide serno is just C-5456, I had added the ellipsis to separate my data from my question... It didn't lead me to believe it was a King slide with just the single letter and 4 numbers following.

if those numbers are on the braces of the slide, those are not serial numbers, but matching numbers for the slide so that they can put it back together after finishing. Each side is made as a set so that the inner and outer tubes align perfectly.

Ah, so it might not be a mutt after all... Did the early Kings have a serialized slide? Might have been a better question to ask. The slide has about the same amount/ kind of wear as the bell section. Thanks!

Early Kings would have serial numbers in several places (including the lever for the water key). But there was no King 607 in 1940 -- it was still some 30 years in the future.

You guys are a wealth of knowledge!
So I found this bit of info:
1987 - 1995 the prefix number + 50 is the year of manufacture
1996-2000 "5" preceeds the serial number
2001- no prefix
So without a prefix and a number of 181xxx, likely 2001 or newer.
Appreciate the help!

Both parts of my mid 90s King 3B slide are marked B 0998. That's gotta be a slide matching number. The real serial number is on the main bell brace.
