Student and "off center" embouchure

Post by rmb796 »

Hi,
I have started working with a 7th grade trombone player who is playing off the right side of her mouth.
(seems rather common because kids are trying to reach 6th position)
Her tone, intonation, and rythm is coming along rather nicely. I do not know if I should let her play slightly off to one side or frustrate her by trying to move the embouchure to the center. I know a lot of fine players who have played off center.
Just trying to get other thoughts from trombonists and teachers.

Thanks in advance
Randy

I play a little off center to the left. Unless there are serious issues, I wouldn't worry about it.

Put it where it works best. That's all.

Look at my picture

Thanks Doug. She is in about the same position but on the other side.
