Hi, I am looking to buy the TIS Handslide from the George Roberts Model S22 Bass Trb. or I am looking for the lower slide tubes both inner and outer 562 bore to convert my S23 Bass with a DB -TIS 547/562 into a straight 562 bore slide. We can add a D slide to this Bucket List also. Please contact me at [url=mailto:

if anyone has any idea on where to find these items.
Thanks, John

I think I've heard that Bach 50 slides are compatible in the taper and locknut, but obviously not TIS. All I'm really saying is you might find a modern .562 slide that works with that bell.

Check the stocking diameter of a Bach 50 inner vs. the upper inner on the S-23. I recently had both inners on an O-25 (single bore .554") replaced with generic Bach 50 inners; they matched up with the original Olds outers.
EDIT: Did a little measuring. The stockings of the replacement tubes are .590"; the stocking on the my late Fullerton S-20's upper inner is .595". That extra .005" (.0025"/side) might be tolerable.

IF the Bach 50 inner slide tube Stockings outer dimension is compatible with the Olds Outer 547 Slide Tube than what inner slide tube could be compatible with the Olds 562 bore outer slide? I had a Custom Olds Bass w/Thayer that I am told was made for George Roberts. Its history was told on a FS ad I had a month or so back. The outer slide top tube was definitely a 562 bore as all my 562 leadpipes fit it. The lower tube was unknown , but it was a larger bore. I could take the outer slide of that Olds and put in on my Edwards DB 62/78 inner handslide and it fit perfectly. It would not fit over the 578 bore inner tube of my SHires Bass. But here we are getting into the differences in the OD( outside dimension) of the inner slide tube stocking and not the ID. IT also fit my Shires and Edwards Bass handslide receivers. The S23 fits my one and only modern bass my Shires and the lock nut and tenon are compatible. FWIW

John, you need to go down to your local Harbor Freight and pick up a cheap dial caliper (heck, if you're feel flush, get a digital). You can go crazy trying to figure out what size a tube is based on what inner/outer it fits (or does not fit) into/over.
Measuring OD's is pretty straightforward. ID's take a little finagling to get an accurate reading (gotta get past any lip).
Your life would also be easier if you could get access to an Allied Supply catalog (most techs have them). It's got nominal dimensions for a lot of different slide tubes.

THank you John L. Are there any noticeable playing differences with the new generic Bach 50 inner slide tubes compared to the original inner slide tubes of your 0-25? Can you tell me the cost of each inner slide tube? Thanks, John McK

I'm still using the original leadpipe, which it doesn't sound like you're planning to do.
Replacing both inners was $400, including labor.

Not sure about a Bach 50 (probably), but I can take a Bach 42B slide, and interchange it with my P-22 Olds Bass.
So I've hear Bach 50 & 42 slides will interchange - so it should work (again, as mentioned - not TIS).

I have, although it was a long time ago. I more recently had a 547/562 slide built for me thinking it woudl work better for me as a bass doubler for my Shires bass bell. I ultimately had it converted back to 562/578 and notice only an improvement in the way it feels. I'm not sure what causes me to feel that way about it to be honest. I also tried my Shries T47LW slide onthe bell section and too when my other slide was in the shop. It doesn't help me at all in the high range and actually in some ways inhibits it on the bass bell section. However, I dont' like the reverse, when I put the larger slide on my tenor bell section. I have hypothesis, but they probaby aren't relevant to this situation.
That all said, I suspect in your case it might work much better because the Olds are smaller than Shires basses. It was designed for a smaller slide. So you may find a 42 works quite well for you.
One other thing to consider is that the length of the slides are probably different. Bach slides are generally long. This may actually work to your advantage. I honestly rarely use my tuning slide. You may find that your tech can build it so that it's 442 without doing much cutting and you could just get away without any tuning mechanism.
