The mouthpiece provided is a Yamaha 58L and I’m wondering are there any alternative suggestions?

That would be a good choice if you can deal with the 2 size rim.

My best mouthpiece and your best mouthpiece will probably differ. I tend to play 1½ size pieces when I'm not playing bass a lot (and larger when I am).

The Wick 2NAL seems a popular first bass mouthpiece. Also about the size of the 58.

Slightly bigger is the Bach 1½ G, Marcinkiewicz 3 (sometimes labeled 1½), and other similar mouthpieces.

What's best for you? Only you (and probably your teacher) can tell.

There is no "best" mouthpiece. Unfortunately, you will have to experiment.
If you're lucky, you may also get some guidance from a knowledgeable trombone teacher or experienced professional. The Yamaha 58 is, of course, a decent starting point.

A few questions:

1. Are you a bass trombonist or new to the bass trombone?

2. Have you tried any other bass pieces or just the 58L?

As others have stated there is "no best." It's not like choosing the proper oil weight for a car or answering the question "should I rob that gas station?" Answer is no BTW.

It's an experiment and if 30 bass trombonists played your instrument I'm guessing there'd be about 24 different mouthpieces chosen with a few duplications.

FWIW the 59L is close to a 1 and 1/2G size, the 58L being closer to a 2G size. They also make a 60L which is bigger than the 59L.
